Here comes the sun…

.

Welcome to the first of our monthly newsletters, offering you a behind-the-scenes look at the thoughtful work happening in our studio, along with the ideas that are inspiring and pushing us forward from the creative industry. This month has been a blend of creative progress and exploration, both within our projects and beyond the studio walls. Plus, after a dismal 2 weeks over the Easter period (just in time for half-term for the kids) we’ve had another little glimmer of summer peeking just around the corner.

INDUSTRY INSIGHTS

Direct mail marketing

Are people turning back to more direct marketing?

Social media algorithms are all over the place. Throw in the added fact that it has become increasingly saturated and competitive, are businesses turning to more targeted and reliable channels like email marketing and direct mail? Certainly, from our own experience and the general industry chatter, this does seem to be happening.

These more traditional methods offer a direct line to consumers, with personalised content that feels more intentional and trustworthy, cutting through the digital noise and endless TikTok style videos. Email marketing allows for precise audience segmentation and measurable results, while direct mail creates a tangible experience that often stands out in a digital-first world. Together, they provide a powerful alternative for building lasting customer relationships and driving engagement.

Victorian Exhibition Design

The Commandery – Victorian Exhibition

Our collaboration with The Commandery on this ambitious project involved a wide range of tasks, each contributing to the immersive experience. From modernising newspaper cuttings to be displayed on the walls, to larger-scale efforts, like designing expansive backdrops that reflected traditional Victorian-era shop fronts.

These backdrops were carefully accentuated with authentic props, adding depth and realism to the overall setting. A series of interpretation panels were produced and stationed to provide context to various antiques and the scenes.

Tough Furniture Brand Refresh

Tough Furniture – Brand refresh

Tough Furniture are a family-run business based in Shropshire, specialising in the mental health and autism care environment. Having worked with Tough Furniture on previous projects, they approached us to help them with their brand refresh. One of the key requirements of the rebrand, was to project the resilient nature of their furniture, while averting the ‘institutional-looking’ and oppressive aesthetic which usually follows furniture in mental health care environments and the ‘tough’ connotation. It was essential that, as well as strong, the rebranding needed to exude confidence and care.

The strap line “Built with Understanding” encapsulates a brand ethos rooted in empathy, customer focus, and thoughtful design. It suggests that the brand’s products or services are not only carefully crafted but also created with a deep awareness of the needs and desires of its audience.

Creative Boom - The Studio

Creative Boom – The Studio

More and more it feels like a losing battle trying to navigate the current social media algorithms, whether it’s trying to reach your own audience or just catching up with your favourite band. We are bombarded with sponsored or “trending” content, so it’s no surprise that many creatives are tiring of it and looking elsewhere.

That’s where Creative Boom’s ‘The Studio’ comes in, a dedicated social community for the creative industry. From freelancers and start-ups taking their first steps, right through to respected industry experts, The Studio is full of helpful advice, inspiration and above all friendly creative chatter.

Tim Burton Exhibition - Blog inspiration

Tim Burton Exhibition at the Design Museum in London

As we hadn’t had chance to make it down yet, we were happy to hear the Tim Burton Exhibition had been extended until May at the Design Museum in London. The exhibition features artwork from Tim Burton’s personal archive including drawings, paintings, photographs, sketchbooks, moving-image works, sculptural installations, set and costume design. It’s great to see the workings and original ideas behind the themes and characters featured in Tim’s movies.

Noise 0.1 - Watching/Listening to

What We’re Watching

Steve has recently been binge-watching the Disney+ series ‘A Thousand Blows’ Starring Stephen Graham, Malachi Kirby & Erin Doherty. The story follows Hezekiah and Alec, two best friends from Jamaica who find their way to Victorian London to find a better life, but unfortunately get caught up in the East London underworld.

What We’re Listening To

Music is a big influence to us all in the office. This week among other new releases, Heather has been listening to ‘Drive to Goldenhammer’ by Divorce. A summery indie-pop album to guide us into the warmer weather.
